MARKLEEVILLE, Alpine County — A planned 27-hole disc-golf course near Markleeville has received grant support as the county works to replace outdoor recreation opportunities lost in the 2021 Tamarack Fire.
In an official September 10, 2026 announcement, Alpine County reported a $498,572 Proposition 68 grant approved by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy for the combined Markleeville Disc Golf and Charity Valley Trailhead project.
Where will the work take place?
The project involves upgrades to the Charity Valley Trailhead, approximately three miles west of Markleeville on Hot Springs Road, and the planned 27-hole Terrapin Pines Disc Golf Course nearby. County environmental-filing records show notices for the Terrapin Pines project in July and October 2026.
Funding does not mean the course is open
The announcement concerns grant funding and project progress, not a confirmed opening. Visitors should not plan on playing the new course until the county announces construction completion, public access and operating rules.
The county says the new recreation facilities are intended to restore an opportunity lost after the Tamarack Fire and support visitor use. Residents can follow county meetings and environmental filings for next steps, project changes and possible public-comment opportunities.
